Free meals will be available to all KSD students learning in person at school this year thanks to a decision by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to extend its Seamless Summer program through June 2022.
The program, which is usually only available during summer months, has an emphasis on fruits, veggies, milk, and whole grains.
“States and districts wanted waivers extended to plan for safe reopening in the fall; USDA answered the call to help America’s schools and childcare institutions serve high quality meals while being responsive to their local needs as children safely return to their regular routines,” USDA Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a news release.
While meals will continue to be offered at no cost to students in the 2021-2022 school year, families are strongly encouraged to complete a meal benefits form for other discounts and offers that will support their child's educational experience.
