student learning

Kalama educators have created a plan for providing instruction to students during the school closure period and are actively reaching out to their students.

Regardless of how long the closure lasts, your students will have access to instruction and the opportunity to extend their learning. While these educational opportunities will look different, your students’ needs are in the capable hands of motivated and creative teachers who are standing by to help.

Things to know about Remote Learning:

  • New work: While teachers will provide feedback about progress, students will not be graded on any new learning. They will be assessed and provided with teacher feedback, but this will not count against them in terms of their grade.
  • Old/missing work: Turn it in and improve! Students in grades 6-12 will have the opportunity to improve their grades. Students who had missing assignments before the closure will have until April 10 to turn in work. If students are able to turn in these missing assignments during the closure period, their grade could be improved. All work will be turned in electronically unless other arrangements are made with the principal.
  • Grades: Please contact individual teachers to learn more about current grades and the options for missing work. You can also login to the Skyward system to check grades. Choose the Family Access section from the drop down just below the login screen.

Things to know about contacting teachers:

Teachers are working M-TH through April 24 and will technically be off during Spring Break. You can contact them anytime, but know they may not be checking email during the break.

Teachers will call or email to check in with parents and/or students on a weekly basis. Many will be calling from their home phone, but may use the *67 function, which will display on your phone as “no caller ID.” If you can answer these calls during the closure period, this will aid in our direct communication with you.

Tech support:

Our team has disassembled all the Chromebook carts in the school district in order to get technology into the hands of the students who needed it. If you or your student run into any technical problems, contact Bob Von Roch at 360-673-5807 or helpdesk@kalama.k12.wa.us.
