The Chinook Shoppe, Kalama High School’s student-run store located inside the Port of Kalama’s Mountain Timber Market, recently marked its first full year in business with a move to a new 420-square-foot retail space.
The shop, which launched as a retail kiosk in November 2023, showcases both Kalama School District pride and student craftsmanship, with students from Kalama High School involved at every level of the operation – from the physical layout of the store, to product design, marketing, sales, and more.
“The Chinook Shoppe is truly a celebration of our students’ creativity, talent, and skill,” said Stacy Jones, who, as part of her duties as Kalama High School’s Career Connected Coordinator, manages the shop’s daily operations. “Every detail in the store reflects their hard work. It’s their passion and dedication that truly bring this space to life.”
With the larger footprint, the shop offers visitors a brighter, more naturally lit environment. It also makes it easier to display a wider variety of products for customers to explore.
“The new space certainly makes a difference for both our customers and students,” said Jones. “It’s a better showcase for all that our students are bringing to the table.”
Visitors to the Chinook Shoppe this holiday season will find a wide array of student-made Kalama and Pacific Northwest-themed merchandise, including apparel, tumblers, postcards, metal art and cutting boards. Recent best sellers, according to Jones, include Kalama hats and ornaments.
The Chinook Shoppe, now online at https://chinookshoppe.com, is located at 254 N Hendrickson Drive, Suite 110, in Kalama.
