Kalama Elementary School Teacher Katy Pietsch has been named the 2023 School Employee of the Year by the Kalama Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber recognized Pietsch, who teaches 2nd Grade, in recognition of her exceptional dedication, innovative teaching methods, and unwavering commitment to student success.
“It was an honor to even be considered for this award, let alone receive it,” said Pietsch. “As a ‘Kalama kid’ all grown up, it’s an incredible feeling to know that my name now sits among an esteemed list of beloved teachers/staff members, people who have been mentors to me, people I greatly admire.”
The Chamber award isn’t the only recognition Pietsch has received of late. Earlier this year, she was one of five KES teachers nominated for ESD 112’s 2024-2025 Regional Teacher of the Year Award.
“The relationships [Katy] builds are felt in and out of the classroom through the care she exhibits, restorative conversations she leads with her students, and the interest she portrays in the well-being of those around her,” one of her Regional Teacher of the Year nominators wrote. “You can feel the dedication to fight for what's best and the love she has for everyone!”
The Chamber presented its award to Pietsch during a banquet on Tuesday, July 16.
