The Kalama School Board has appointed Stephanie Harbell to fill the District 1 board director position vacated by Susan Dennis-Langham in February.
Harbell participated in her first board meeting after being sworn into office at the March 11 Kalama School Board meeting. She will serve the remainder of the unexpired term for District 1 through November 2025.
“I applied for the open school board position because of my deep passion for education and student learning,” said Harbell, a former Kalama School District teacher and current substitute teacher and parent. “By being actively involved in education policy and decision-making, I aim to make a meaningful impact on the quality of education and the overall learning experience for our students.”
Growing up, Harbell attended Bethel High School in Graham, WA. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Washington and a Master of Education Degree from the University of Phoenix. She has lived in Kalama for 15 years.
“I am excited for the opportunity to contribute to education policy, improve educational outcomes for students, engage with the community, and ensure the effective operation of our schools,” Harbell noted.
Wesley Eader, Chair of the Kalama School Board, said the board will greatly benefit from Harbell’s perspective.
“She brings a lot to the table,” he said. “Her variety of experience in the district as a teacher, parent, PTO leader, and substitute teacher have prepared her with the professional knowledge of education, institutional knowledge, as well a personal investment that should contribute to her being an effective and positive addition to the school board.”
The Kalama School Board’s next meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 25.
