Kalama School District is looking to increase parent and community involvement in its schools by inviting members of the public to consider serving on one of several volunteer committees in the district.
Each committee plays an important role in shaping the district’s educational landscape and policies. Some of the committees that may have opportunities for parent/community involvement include:
General Advisory Committee: This committee aims to engage members in understanding and participating in both local and state education systems, as well as taking leadership roles within the district and community. (Meetings are held monthly)
Long-Range Facilities Planning: Focused on creating a comprehensive plan for the maintenance needs of school facilities, this committee establishes timelines, replacement schedules, and reviews policies and procedures. (Meetings are held monthly)
Wellness Committee: Centered on promoting wellness among students, staff, and families, this committee collaborates with school staff and Nutrition Services to refine and monitor the district’s Wellness Policy. (Quarterly meetings are supplemented with potential monthly subcommittee work)
Educational Programs and Grants Committee: This committee convenes to review and revise programs and policies for educational programs such as Title, LAP, Hi-cap, and Transitional Bilingual programs. (Quarterly meetings are supplemented with potential monthly subcommittee work).
Budget Committee: Responsible for reviewing the school district budget and recommending necessary changes, this committee works towards creating a budget proposal for approval by the Kalama School Board in June. (Meetings are held twice a month from March to June, and once a month from November to February)
Athletics & Activities Advisory Committee: This advisory committee ensures that athletics and activities programs meet the needs of students. Members assist in reviewing policies, handbooks, and compliance rules. (Quarterly meetings are typically scheduled at the beginning or end of each season)
