The Kalama Middle School/Kalama High School campus was buzzing with excitement last Friday as students and staff gathered for the much-anticipated 2nd Annual Kalammy Awards.
Split into two separate awards assemblies (one for each school), the “Kalammys” honor individuals who go above and beyond in helping to foster a positive, safe, and supportive culture within the school community.
“This event is focused on many of the social and emotional ‘soft skills’ that often don’t get recognized the way they should,” said Terra Pfeiffer, Kalama Middle School’s interim assistant principal. “We wanted the opportunity to really celebrate these things because our kids do such amazing things. They’re kind, they’re respectful, and they help each other out.”
In the weeks leading up to the awards, hundreds of nominations poured in from both students and staff members, underscoring the enthusiasm for the event.
Among those recognized during the assembly were students who demonstrated exceptional growth in their academic or personal endeavors, individuals who consistently exhibited a positive spirit, and those who consistently go the extra mile to support their peers and staff members.
With the success of 2024’s Kalammy Awards, anticipation is already building for next year's event, promising even more opportunities to celebrate many of the students and staff who help make Kalama’s schools shine.
“This truly is an event,” said Pfeiffer. “Our hope is that the Kalammys will continue on for many, many years to come.”
