Equity Through Impartiality

Our commitment: Kalama School District is committed to equity through impartiality.

All students deserve to be successful in our schools. Accordingly, all staff have a responsibility to create and maintain the conditions for ALL students and staff to be successful. We are committed to creating an environment where our differences are recognized as the basis for building understanding and respect, not the basis for divisiveness and conflict.

Why Equity Through Impartiality?

We want ALL students to:

  • Achieve their full potential

  • Feel valued and supported

  • Be engaged with high expectations for their learning

Equity through impartiality allows us to create a school environment in which our students and staff feel a true sense of unity, togetherness and belonging. This ultimate goal (unity & belonging) is an essential value toward connected and enjoyable classrooms where everyone can thrive.

In order to fulfill our commitment, we will address inequities and remove barriers so that all students and staff can flourish in our schools.

Why these terms? Common language.

Equity: The guarantee of fair treatment, access, opportunity and advancement while at the same time identifying and eliminating barriers that prevent the full participation of any individual or group.

Impartiality: The principle of justice holding that decisions should be based on objective criteria, rather than on the basis of bias, prejudice, or preferring the benefit to one person over another for improper reasons.

How we measure success:

  • High levels of academic achievement

  • High levels of involvement in school-related activities
