Frequently Asked Questions:
What is a restorative justice intervention?
The intention of a restorative justice intervention is to shift the focus of student punishment to reflective learning. It emphasizes accountability, making amends, and facilitating dialogue between affected parties.
The frequency of restorative justice interventions is likely to be highest at the elementary school level due to the amount of social emotional learning that takes place in primary school.
Why do some data points show "N/A"?
Some data points are not tracked at all grade levels. However, we do hope to reduce the number of "N/As" that appear in the dashboard as we continue to refine our reporting systems.
How can I compare this data to previous months?
Comparative/longitudinal data will be illustrated on the dashboard at a later date.
What does a school's average daily attendance have to do with school climate and culture?
While it is true that average daily attendance can be impacted by a wide range of factors (flu season, COVID-19 spread, holiday travel, etc.), research suggests that a positive school climate and high satisfaction with school reduces school absenteeism.
What is the difference between school climate and school culture?
School climate is defined as the quality and character of school life. Based on patterns of students', parents', and school personnel's experience of school life; it also reflects norms, goals, values, interpersonal relationships, teaching and learning practices, and organizational structures. (NSCC)
School culture is the guiding beliefs or ethos, underlying assumptions, expectations, norms and values that give a school its identity, influence the way a school operates, and affect the behavior of principals, teachers, support staff and learners. (International Bureau of Education)
