Message from the Superintendent
September 29th 2016
Dear Parents and Community Members:
I am honored to serve as the Superintendent for the Kalama School District. Last year I was fortunate to have the full Kalama experience! I attended the 125th Anniversary Celebration, participated in the enormous strawberry shortcake feast, attended Kalama Fair festivities and the Haydu Park dedication. One of my favorite Kalama adventures was the car show! School business was busy last year too. We worked together to implement All Day, Every Day Kindergarten, added new courses to our secondary program, hired nearly twenty new staff and initiated a Long Range Facility Study process.
The most important part of the 2015-2016, however, was the people of Kalama. I spent all of last year meeting with individuals and groups to learn more about this great community I have joined. I found you - as a community - to be warm, welcoming and willing to support our students through volunteerism, attending events and sponsorship. You are also willing to "tell it like it is" and provide clear and constructive feedback. I look forward to continuing these conversations again in 2016-2017. I invite you to meet with me at your convenience, so I might better understand the needs and interests of our community, particularly as they pertain to our students!
I still believe Kalama is "a small town that’s big on community!" I would invite you to get involved with us! This year we have initiated robotics instruction and robotics clubs at the elementary and middle school, and "Wednesday Club" at the elementary school. We are also continuing to develop our Long Range Facilities Plan. Whether it's at the Middle School, High School, or the Elementary School, there is always a place for volunteers, substitute teachers and substitute custodians. Also, you can look forward to updated information about the district on our new community postcard. You will be receiving this postcard from us every two months, and it will outline some of the major events and accomplishments in the district, as well as ways for you to get involved.
Welcome to the Kalama School District and the 2016-2017 school year!
